The Hispanic Development Fund gives grants to organizations that build on the assets and strengths of the Hispanic Community.  Established in 1983, the Hispanic Development Fund has currently an endowment of over 1.7 million dollars.

Meet Our Advisory Board
Ramon Murguia (Chairman)
Mr. Murguia is an attorney in private practice in Kansas City, Missouri where he serves the needs of a largely Spanish- speaking clientele. He primarily works with small business owners and other corporate clients. He is very active in his neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas and is very involved serving on numerous boards of non-profit organizations in the Kansas City Metropolitan community
 
Carlos Salazar
Mr. Salazar is Executive Director of the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri, a certified 501 (c) 3 non-for-profit community development corporation specializing in the development of Latino micro-enterprise business start ups. HEDC is also a real estate developer in Kansas City, Missouri developing the DST Output Westside Business Park. Mr. Salazar was previously employed by the Kansas City Power & Light Company for 19 years where he finished his career as a lobbyist at the City and County levels of government. Carlos has served on many Boards across the City of Kansas City and the State of Missouri.
 
Beatriz Sanchez
Mrs. Sanchez has worked for the Kansas City, Missouri School District for fifteen years. She has been a volunteer for over 20 years serving on various Community organizations and boards. She also served on ex-Mayor Cleaver's Task Force on Race Relations and was a translator for the Empowerment Zone Meetings.
 
Bobby Hernandez
Mr.Hernandez was one of the youngest ever elected City Council members in recent history. Elected at the age of 29 in 1975, he served until 1991, when two term limits prevented him from being re-elected. After leaving the City Council, Mr. Hernandez pursued a career in real estate development and contruction and combined that with further community service efforts, raising $1 Million in 2000 to support scholarships for Hispanic youth. He continues to provide leadership and visibility on the issues he is passionate about: making development easier in Kansas City, setting and reaching minority participation goals in contruction and mobilizing the Hispanic community to vote.
 
Candace Colorado
Mrs. Colorado has worked in Dialysis for over 11 years and was a member of the Kidney Transplant Team. For over five years she worked in a commercial real estate office. She was a member of the Pastoral Council of Guardian Angels Church were she has been a member for over 27 years and is a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Colorado is active in many Church activities, especially in helping with the Food Pantry. She is now an investor and along with my family has founded the Colorado Family Foundation that is involved in scholarships for Hispanics. Six special scholarships are given annually in memory of David Colorado, Mary Lou Colorado, Rose Colorado, Isabel Ruiz, and Thomas Ruiz as well as one named for her grandchild Gabriella.
 
Michael Gonzales
Mr. Gonzales has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources with 20 in a management role. He currently provides HR counsel for Corporate Strategy & Ventures and the Information Technology divisions at Hallmark Cards. He currently is a member and former officer for the Hispanic Employee Resource Group (HEART) at Hallmark. Michael also is a member of the National Society of Hispanic MBA's (NSHMBA).
He currently serves on the board for Westside Housing. And in years prior was a board member for Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Emporia, Kansas.
 
Maria Mora
Maria is a charter member of the Hispanic Development Fund. She has served on various boards, in different capactities including: MANA, both locally and on a National level, Cabbott Westside Clinic, Posada del Sol, Mayor's Enthunic Enrichment Committee, Missouri Govenor's Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs, Hispanic Leadership Institute, and the Greater Kansas
City Hispanic Scholarship Fund just to name a few.
Maria retired after 25 years of service with the Federal Government but continues her volunteer services with several organizations.
